So I think it finally hit me that I will be leaving the country in about 7 days. Not to mention, I will no longer be a teenager in 3 days. Time has really flown by.
Every day that I get closer to leaving for Haiti, understandably, I get more excited! So many good things to look forward to - I will get to serve in ministry with some very good friends of mine, Caleb and David. I will get to meet some Haitian people, including local pastors (this is going to be a real treat for me because I've never met a non-American pastor). I am going to get physically spent doing some manual labor (strangely enough, this excites me...if only I had this attitude when I was a small child picking up sticks in my backyard in MS). I will be able to spend some very sweet time with God because I will not be able to do anything but that. I will get to be stretched in my faith in God as well. This last one kind of makes me nervous because as excited as I am and apparently certain that it is going to be an awesome time, there remains a huge element of uncertainty as I will be going to serve on my first international mission trip.
I was careful to note that this is my first "international" mission trip because I believe Christians are on mission every day of their lives in the very settings in which they live. If people truly viewed their lives as being on mission, the church would have a much better reputation among non-christians.
As of now, I still need to get some immunizations, Typhoid and Tetanus. I'm thinking Friday morning before a 9 hour work day is the perfect time to get em.
